Pula Phones is a system which allows farmers to register for the insurance, using their phone, after they buy bags of seeds.
The system launched in Malawi and Zambia which allows farmers to register for the insurance, using their phone, after they buy the seeds. Then if there’s no rain they’re able to get another bag of seed. The system has been used in 2017 to ensure 600,000+ farmers.
As lead developer, I worked primarily on the back-end system whose primary responsibilities were to ensure that the responses and communications of the farmers were always processed as well as develop and maintain the following business logic around these interactions and the micro-insurance functionality.
